More Music! More Arts!
Students in the Juneau School District have several opportunities to receive additional music instruction and exposure through various programming generously provided by the Juneau School District, Individual Volunteers, and Community Organizations. These programs include, but are not limited to:
Artist in the School Program: "The Artist in the Schools Program (AIS) provides residencies in the visual and performing arts in the Juneau School District throughout the school year. The AIS program in Alaska is funded by the National Endowment for the Arts, the Alaska State Council on the Arts, and the Rasmuson Foundation." -Juneau Arts and Humanities Council Website
Juneau Jazz and Classics: "This year, Juneau Jazz & Classics will serve an estimated 4,000 students through workshops, school concerts, clinics, a scholarship program and a host of free informal concerts, all an integral part of our mission to make our artists and their music accessible to everyone." -Juneau Jazz and Classics Website
Juneau Symphony: The Juneau Symphony provides musicians for school assembly concert to Kindergarten-5th grade students in Juneau. Fourth and Fifth grade students take a field trip to attend an interactive concert each January. There is no fee to the students or schools to participate.
Alaska Folk Festival: The Alaska Folk Festival is a free event. Every year, the second week in April, musicians from around the country visit Juneau for this festival. Festival Musicians and volunteers generously support our schools through a 3rd grade folk dance excursion! Students are invited to the festival to dance to a live band with a live caller. Dances are pre-taught to all students during Music, PE, and General Classroom time. This program is supported by the Juneau School District and Alaska Folk Festival.
Riverbend Talent Show: Each May Riverbend Elementary holds an annual Talent Show. Students try out for the show at the end of April, practice with a teacher who is assigned to them, practice at the required after-school dress rehearsal, and perform a great show! We have had students jump rope, dance, hoola hoop, sing, play instruments, perform magic, act, show off art work, etc... Whatever your talent is... Bring it on!
