Third Grade General Music
Riverbend 3rd grade students receive 45 minutes of General Music instruction each week.

Third Grade Learning Objectives
Trimester 1
During the first trimester students in third grade will work on building a repertoire of songs to sing (Sing-Along Songs). They will explore melodic contour and practice proper singing posture and vocal technique. Students will explore and demonstrate the concepts of solfege pitches (so, la, mi, re, and do), ostinato, major/minor, phrase, simple bordun, phrasing, crescendo, and decrescendo. During this trimester students in third grade will have the opportunity to use un-pitched percussion and Orff instruments (xylophones).
Trimester 2
During the second trimester students in third grade will work on building a repertoire of songs to sing (Sing-Along Songs). They will explore melodic contour and practice proper singing posture and vocal technique. Students will explore and demonstrate the concepts of solfege pitches (so, la, mi, re, and do), octave, canon/round, interlude, extended form, and the families of the orchestra (woodwind, brass, percussion, and string). During this trimester students in third grade will have the opportunity to use un-pitched percussion and Orff instruments (xylophones).
Trimester 3
During the third trimester students in third grade will work on building a repertoire of songs to sing (Sing-Along Songs). They will explore melodic contour and practice proper singing posture and vocal technique. Students will explore and demonstrate the concepts of accents, bar lines, measure, ¾ and 4/4 Time signatures, solfege pitches (do, re, mi, fa, so, la), octave, treble clef, music staff, rounds, rondo form, and the families of the orchestra (woodwind, brass, percussion, and string). During this trimester students in third grade will have the opportunity to use recorder, un-pitched percussion, and Orff instruments (xylophones). In addition to covering the above objectives third grade students complete a unit of folk dancing during this final trimester. The unit will culminate in a field trip to the Juneau Folk Festival!
