Second Grade General Music
Riverbend 2nd grade students receive 45 minutes of General Music instruction each week.

Second Grade Learning Objectives
Trimester 1
During the first trimester students in second grade will work on building a repertoire of songs to sing (Sing-Along Songs). They will explore melodic contour and practice proper singing posture and vocal technique. Students will explore and demonstrate the concepts of solfege pitches (so, la, mi), ostinato, major/minor, phrase, and forte/piano. During this trimester students in second grade will have the opportunity to use un-pitched percussion and Orff instruments (xylophones).
Trimester 2
During the second trimester students in second grade will continue work on building a repertoire of songs to sing (Sing-Along Songs). They will continue to explore melodic contour and practice proper singing posture and vocal technique. Students will explore and demonstrate the concepts of half note, half rest, solfege pitches (so, la, mi and do, re, mi), simple bordun, rounds, phrase, and coda. During this trimester students in second grade will have the opportunity to use un-pitched percussion and Orff instruments (xylophones).
Trimester 3
During the third trimester students in second grade will continue work on building a repertoire of songs to sing (Sing-Along Songs). They will continue practice proper singing posture and vocal technique. Students will explore and demonstrate the concepts of tempo, solfege pitches (mi, re, do and so, mi, re, do), simple bordun, suspended pitches, form, bar lines and double barlines, and accents. During this trimester students in second grade will have the opportunity to use un-pitched percussion and Orff instruments (xylophones).
