First Grade General Music
Riverbend First grade students receive 45 minutes of General Music instruction each week. Riverbend First Grade students also receive 90 minutes of group violin instruction each week as an academic intervention. Please see 1st Grade JAMM to learn more about this program.

First Grade Learning Objectives
Trimester 1
During the first trimester first grade students will work on building a repertoire of songs to sing (Sing-Along Songs). They will explore their voices, distinguish between whisper, sing, speak, and shout, and learn proper singing posture and technique. Students will begin work to demonstrate musical opposites such as sound/silence, high/low, up/down, and same/different. We will also focus on moving our body in creative ways to show steady beat. During this trimester students in first grade will have the opportunity to use un-pitched instruments and will be introduced to Orff instruments (xylophones).
Trimester 2
During the second trimester students in first grade will continue work on building a repertoire of songs to sing (Sing-Along Songs). They will continue to explore their voices, practice proper singing technique, and explore musical opposites (eg sound/silence, high/low). Students will be introduced to ta (quarter note), shhh (quarter rest), and ti-ti (eighth note). We will continue to practice steady beat using our bodies and exploring beat using instruments. During this trimester students in first grade will have the opportunity to use un-pitched instruments and will begin some exploration on Orff instruments (xylophones).

We will continue to practice steady beat using our bodies and exploring beat using instruments. During this trimester students in first grade will have the opportunity to further their use of un-pitched and Orff instruments (xylophones).
